I wasn’t exactly prepared for the fifth night. The demon brought a miniature copy of the Bible, held in a tiny pair of tongs. He wore sunglasses and read to me certain ridiculous passages, pointing out contradictions and especially wrathful portions of the Old Testament. The demon then started to question my belief in God, but I stopped him, saying, “You’re here, aren’t you?” After that, he stuck to pointing out hypocritical and idiotic laws of Christianity, and the unfairness of mortals “ground under the heel of a jealous God.” After an hour of discussion, his words struck a chord with me. I promised I would think about what he had told me, and he vanished, but not before flushing his Bible down the toilet.
